Leland Olds was the Chairman of the Federal Power Commission from 1939-1949. When his liberal, pro-consumer policies angered Texas gas and oil interests, ambitious Freshman Senator Lyndon Johnson orchestrated an ugly 'Red Smear' campaign that ended Olds' public service career. Ca. 1940 portrait.
